This project investigates how the City of Hobart’s strategies to reduce bushfire risk in suburbs on the urban-bushland interface are evaluated by residents. These strategies include fuel breaks on Council-managed land adjacent to private property, fuel management on bushland, and public information campaigns including public meetings, web and print information. As an integrated social/biophysical study, the project gathers both quantitative and qualitative data from residents living in bushfire-prone suburbs and provides biophysical and spatial data on the City’s fuel breaks and managed fuel areas. These data are used to chart opportunities for improved outcomes in community engagement for bushfire preparedness.
