Improving the health of at-risk Australians: Co-designing a Bushfire Smoke Health Plan

Bushfire smoke poses serious health risks, especially for the elderly, children, pregnant women, and people with chronic conditions. However, planning for prolonged smoke events is limited, with no specific guidelines or templates available. To address this gap, we are working with at-risk individuals and general practitioners (GPs) to co-design a ‘Bushfire Smoke Health Plan’. This co-designed plan has great potential to help at-risk Australians prepare for and respond to prolonged smoke, reducing the need for emergency care and health system utilisation.
